Percussion Detonation

A concert of improvised percussion music with Greg Bendian, Willie Winant, and Lukas Ligeti

Big, colorful, virtuosic, dramatic, maniacal and occasionally humorous music from three master musicians... Of interest to drummers for their use of extended technique, poly-rhythms and poly-meters, and of interest to all musicians for the challenge of creating moving, exciting music without all those stupid guitars and saxophones for once!!!

Greg Bendian is a NY-based drummer and percussionist specializing in avant-garde jazz. He has played with Peter Brotzmann, Paul Plimley, Lisle Ellis, and many others and also performs and records as a soloist.

Willie Winant is possibly the SF Bay Area's best-known "classical" percussionist, performing with the Abel-Steinberg-Winant Trio and the SF Contemporary Music Players, among others. As an improvisor, he is a member of the Glenn Spearman Double Trio and has worked extensively with John Zorn.

Lukas Ligeti is a composer and drummer and currently a visiting scholar at CCRMA, Stanford University. His compositions have been performed by the London Sinfonietta and numerous other ensembles and he has played with Henry Kaiser, Roy Nathanson, Kombinat M, Be-Ta-Foli, etc.

Greg Bendian will also be performing on 3/21 at the Hotel Utah and on 3/23 at the Luggage Store, both in San Francisco.
