Stephano Scodanibbio

Stephano Scodanibbio, contrabass soloist and composer, was born in Macerata, Italy, June 18, 1956. In 1980 he started his activity as a soloist spending long periods in Mexico City and in San Francisco. He has been featured at international seasons and festivals including: Biennale, Venice; Scala, Milan; IRCAM and Festival d'Automne, Paris; Musica, Strasbourg; Donauschinger Musiktage, Wittener Tage, Darmstadt Ferienkurse, Inventionen, Berlin; Gaudeamus, Amsterdam; Wien Modern; Gulbenkian, Lisbon; Reina Sofia, Madrid; Ars Musica, Brussels; Composer Forum, New York; Monday Evening Concerts, Los Angeles; Contemporary Music Players, SF; etc.

Numerous composers have dedicated works to him including Bussotti, Donatoni, Estrada, Ferneyhough, Fred Frith, Sciarrino. Of particular importance has been his long collaboration with Luigi Nono and Giacinto Scelsi.

He plays regularly in Duo with Rohan de Saram (of the Arditti Quartet and AMM), and also with Markus Stockhausen.

His string quartet "Visas" has been recorded by the Arditti Quartet for Montaigne Auvidis, and a CD with Terry Riley is due out this year.
